about

In 17th century Japan there once lived a poet named Matsuo Basho, who authored some of the most evocative, transcendent, and occasionally humorous poetry ever written. Working primarily in the haiku form, his words resonate even today with their imagery, depth, and delicate touch.

One of his more famous quotes was this:

"A good poem is one in which the form of the verse and the joining of its parts seem light as a shallow river flowing over its sandy bed."

With my latest album, entitled "Shallow River Flowing", I have released a collection of beatless flowing soundscapes meant to evoke some of the imagery I experience when reading such poetry.

The title of every track on the album is taken from a poet or a poem, often a haiku but not necessarily, and the music therein tries to capture the essence of the poem as I interpreted it. Some of the music is dark and spooky, some of it light and soaring, but all of it came from the heart.

I hope you find this music refreshing and rewarding, and that you also search on the net for the references the titles imply. Reading the poetry while listening is definitely the way I enjoy it, and I hope you will do the same.
