Recently, Darrell Burgan began composing ambient music under the Palancar pseudonym again after a period of some quiet. Where his previous release, Counting Raindrops was a subdued study of reflection and emotion, his latest release Shani hearkens back to his fascination with the planets of our solar system.

In his previous planetary releases, Darrell focused on Mars with Elysium Planitia, and on Earth's moon with Serenitatis. With Shani, Darrell pays a visit to one of the most mysterious and beautiful places in our cosmic neighborhood: Saturn and its evocative collection of moons.

The music spans several styles of ambience, from almost symphonic movements, to quirky angular compositions, to even more abstract textural pieces, and back to pure lush ear candy. All of the music is beatless, true ambient, but some pieces adopt a more concrete composition style than others, which focus on concepts orthogonal to time signature, mode, and series. All in all it is a collection for which Darrell hopes all ambient fans will find something enjoyable to hear.
